The deck that brought Technics back in 2016: a twin-rotor coreless motor, three-layer platter and magnesium arm. The reference-grade reinvention of the SL-1200. Sold in the US as the SL-1200G-S.
The comeback model that resurrected the Technics turntable line.
Model history: The SL-1200G led Technics' 2016 revival of the SL-1200 series after production ended in 2010 with the SL-1200MK6, relaunching the line as an audiophile-focused 'Grand Class' model (alongside the limited-edition SL-1200GAE) rather than a DJ deck, with a new coreless direct-drive motor, magnesium tonearm and multi-layer cabinet/platter construction.

Who it suits
Best suited to: an established system where the amp, speakers and room can resolve what this deck retrieves from the groove. Less ideal for: a first turntable — the same budget goes much further spent on mid-range separates first.
Compatibility and setup
- Manual operation: expect to cue the record yourself. Check the exact manual for any separate end-of-side auto-lift or stop feature.
Good to know
- No built-in phono stage — use an amplifier with a phono input or add a separate phono preamplifier.
- Sold without a cartridge fitted — budget for a compatible cartridge and setup before first use.
- Professional setup of tracking force, alignment, azimuth and arm height is worth budgeting for at this level.
