What the data can answer — and what it cannot
RecordPlayer Hub is built from exact turntable identities, dated specifications, cartridge and stylus fitment, and separately labelled commercial offers. These counts are read from the live registry, so this page changes as coverage improves.
How a model page is assembled
- Resolve the exact model. Brand, model suffix and generation are treated as identity, not decoration.
- Attach source-backed facts. Manufacturer pages, manuals and archives supply the specification layer; missing values stay missing.
- Resolve compatibility separately. A stylus appears as compatible only through an exact model-specific link or a verified cartridge-to-part link.
- Keep commerce separate. Reference prices, live offers and retailer links are labelled as different evidence types.
Discogs and MusicBrainz references
The Discogs corpus is held, but not used to guess turntable compatibility, pressing value, cartridge fitment or model identity. Its artist, label, master and release records can support licensed reference research only after an exact, useful join has been validated.
MusicBrainz references follow the same evidence rule. Only core CC0 dump fields may enter a commercial projection; restricted supplementary data, inferred matches and cover-art rights are reviewed separately rather than assumed safe.
US, global and RecordPlayer catalogue policy
The two record-player sites share evidence, not public URLs. RecordPlayer Hub owns US-English reference pages, USD price context, US retailer discovery and US live-offer presentation. RecordPlayer owns its UK commerce catalogue, GBP availability and UK editorial journeys. A fact may be globally true, but each public page remains self-canonical to its market.

Cross-site duplicate prevention
Both catalogues may use the shared Atlas source estate and the governed search projection across the private partner catalogue service, but neither inherits the other market's public URLs or publication rights.
- RecordPlayer Hub model pages use their US URL and a self-canonical; RecordPlayer product pages keep their own UK URL and self-canonical.
- There is no cross-domain canonical. Hreflang is emitted only from an explicit, checked URL-pair map; shared names or slugs are not enough.
- A retailer offer, GTIN or external catalogue record cannot generate a turntable page. It must first join to an existing exact model identity through an approved evidence record.
- Uncorroborated GTINs, affiliate payloads and source-feed bodies stay private. Only prices, stock and links allowed by the governing source agreement can be shown.
- Discogs and MusicBrainz records do not create record-player pages, recommendations or compatibility claims; storage proves possession, not publication permission or relevance.
How wider reference data is used
Specifications are checked against manufacturer documentation and established reference material. Commerce feeds support separately labelled offers and are never presented as specification evidence.
Commercial and licensed feeds are never exposed as bulk downloads or used to manufacture unsupported editorial claims. The private affiliate data currently contributes 0 validated lookup identifiers across 0 existing models. Those identifiers are used only to make live offer matching more exact; they are not emitted in page markup or presented as product facts unless independently corroborated. New page types are published only when identity, rights, duplication and usefulness checks pass.
Daily update cycle
At 13:00 UTC each day, the worker paginates the complete Atlas record-player catalogue, applies a minimum-record safety gate, and upserts brands and models into the site database. Public catalogue, search, report and sitemap pages then read the complete local registry; exact model pages can still consult Atlas for the newest per-record provenance. Private exact identifiers improve the separate live-offer lookup, whose price, stock and merchant checks remain live and independently filtered.
Known gaps
- 52 model records do not yet expose an official manufacturer link.
- 102 model records do not yet carry a dated verification.
- A missing feature is not treated as a definite “no” unless the source establishes that absence.
- Reference prices are dated guide values, not stock claims. Only the separately labelled live-offer section reports current merchant availability.
