Setup bottom line: Budget for a phono input or separate phono preamp as well as amplification and speakers. Check model-specific stylus evidence →
A bigger, heavier X1: 2kg acrylic platter, 9-inch arm and balanced output, with an Ortofon 2M Silver fitted.
Model history: The X2 B develops Pro-Ject's original X2 into a fully balanced design, adding a mini-XLR output alongside RCA and shipping with a moving-coil cartridge to take advantage of the balanced connection.

Who it suits
Best suited to: a first serious turntable for an existing or planned amp-and-speakers setup. Less ideal for: plugging straight into passive speakers with no amp — check the built-in phono stage row above, and note most hi-fi decks still need external amplification.
Compatibility and setup
- Manual operation: expect to cue the record yourself. Check the exact manual for any separate end-of-side auto-lift or stop feature.
Good to know
- No built-in phono stage — use an amplifier with a phono input or add a separate phono preamplifier.
