Setup bottom line: Add amplification and speakers, but a separate phono preamp is not required. Check model-specific stylus evidence →
Belt-drive deck with a 1.7 kg zero-resonance glass platter, electronic speed change and a built-in split-passive MM phono preamp for closer RIAA accuracy. Ships with a pre-aligned Sumiko Rainier cartridge — a US-market pairing.
Sold directly by Sonos in the US as its recommended plug-and-play audiophile turntable.
Model history: The T2 Super Phono builds on Pro-Ject's acclaimed T1 formula as its 'big brother', with a longer 9-inch tonearm (up from 8.6 inches), a heavier 3.75lb glass platter, an upgraded Sumiko Rainier cartridge, and a new dual-stage phono preamp.
Who it suits
Best suited to: a first serious turntable for an existing or planned amp-and-speakers setup. Less ideal for: plugging straight into passive speakers with no amp — check the built-in phono stage row above, and note most hi-fi decks still need external amplification.
Compatibility and setup
- Manual operation: expect to cue the record yourself. Check the exact manual for any separate end-of-side auto-lift or stop feature.
Good to know
- Has a built-in phono stage, so it can feed a normal line input on an amplifier or powered speakers without a separate phono box.
