The step up from the LP60X: still fully automatic, but with a proper VM95-series cartridge on a replaceable half-inch mount. Sold in the US market — UK buyers get the Bluetooth AT-LP70XBT instead. Not officially distributed in the UK — the Bluetooth AT-LP70XBT is the version sold there.

Model history: The AT-LP70X is Audio-Technica's first real update to its entry-level line in years, replacing the AT-LP60X with a longer J-shaped tonearm, true dual RCA outputs (instead of a 3.5mm cable), and an upgradable VM95-series cartridge in place of the fixed stylus.

Who it suits
Best suited to: a first turntable for casual, low-effort listening. Less ideal for: an existing hi-fi system where you want to hear more detail — the fixed cartridge and light tonearm are the limiting factors there.
